Description

A Victorian favourite but sadly these beauties are rarely grown today! Polianthes tuberosa make fabulous conservatory plants where their tall flower spikes will fill the air with a rich, sweet fragrance. If you can spare a few, they add a wonderful perfume to summer bouquets. These unusual tender bulbs are best grown in a warm greenhouse or conservatory, with a minimum temperature of 15°C (59°F). However they can be enjoyed outdoors during the summer months, either plunged into borders, or as a patio plant, once all risk of frost has passed. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 15cm (6").

  • Polianthes tuberosa 'Trio Collection' comprises:
  • 10 x Polianthes tuberosa 'The Pearl' - Intensely fragrant, waxy white flowers.
  • 6 x Polianthes tuberosa ‘Pink Sapphire’ - Rose pink blooms with fully double petals.
  • 6 x Polianthes tuberosa ‘Yellow Baby’ – The creamy yellow flowers are deeply fragrant.

How to Grow
Plant tubers in pots during spring, at a depth of 10cm. Grow them on in a warm, frost free position. When plants are well grown, and all risk of frost has past, transplant Polianthes into their final positions in borders or containers. Choose a sunny position in moist, free draining soil. Tubers may also be planted directly into borders.
More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. With the first autumn frosts, remove tubers from their positions and store over winter in peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position. Replant tubers of Polianthes tuberosa the following spring.
