Description

This attractive evergreen shrub is a ‘must have’ for bringing interest to spring borders and for providing all year round colour. Pieris are much admired for their whorled evergreen foliage, often edged with cream, with the tips of the foliage turning pink through the year.

In this collection you will receive 1 each of the following varieties -

  • Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver' - dark green leaves are each contrastingly edged silvery-white with the young foliage emerging bright red, giving this hardy evergreen shrub its name! Height: 4m (13’). Spread: 3m (10’).
  • Pieris 'Forest Flame' - young spring leaves are bright red fading through coral pink and cream, before reaching their final shade of dark green. The colourful foliage contrasts beautifully with the dangling clusters of creamy white flowers in spring. Height: 4m (13’). Spread: 2m (6’,6”).
  • Pieris japonica 'Debutante' - bears crowded panicles of urn-shaped, ivory-white flowers from March to May. The drooping blooms contrast well against a flush of burgundy foliage which slowly colours to green throughout the summer. Height :90cm (36”). Spread: 90cm (36”).
  • Pieris japonica ‘Little Heath - bell-shaped, creamy flowers appear during spring. The compact habit of Pieris japonica ‘Little Heath’ makes it the ideal shrub for growing in patio pots. Height: 60cm (24”). Spread: 60cm (24”).
  • Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire' - has bright red foliage in spring and slowly transforms through shades of copper to its final deep green colour. The densely crowded panicles of cream flowers drip from the plant between March and May, attracting pollinating insects to the garden. Height: 2m (6’,6”). Spread: 1.5m (5’).
  • Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Pieris plants in a sunny or partially shaded position, in a moderately fertile, rich, well drained and acidic soil. Alternatively grow Pieris in large containers, using ericaceous (acidic) compost.
More Info
Whilst your Pieris plants are young, they may require some winter protection. As they become established, you will find that Pieris plants will need very little pruning. After flowering, you can trim them to keep a good shape, and remove any dead or damaged growth. Caution: harmful if eaten.
