Phormium 'Golden Ray' is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial. Its gently arching foliage is mainly green with a pale-yellow stripe nearing the edge with a final shade of bronzy-red as the margin. This colourful specimen will bring even more during a hot summer with its tubular yellow blooms. They are wonderful when planted up in patio containers, or in borders, and looks particularly lovely when offset with gravel. It will appreciate full sun and at times some shade, and in the winter will need protecting for cold, harsh winds. If planted in containers simply move the pots to a more sheltered and protected area. Height 2m (78”) and spread 1.5m (59”).

How to Grow
Grow Phormium on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a protected position in full sun. Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil - so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Phormium need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip much below-5C (23F). Where winters are particularly cold and wet, it may be preferable to grow Phormiums in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
