Spring planting. Heat treated.
The answer to gardeners' prayers! Heat treated early main crop, Onion 'Santero' F1 Hybrid is the first onion set with resistance to downy mildew, a potentially disastrous fungal foliage disease.
This 'Rijnsburger' type onion produces copper brown, oval-to-round bulbs with medium skin thickness. Yields are similar in quality and quantity to other F1 maincrop varieties currently available, and bulbs have great storage potential. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 15cm (6").
1 Packet (75 Seeds) (TT04893)
Direct sow onions outdoors in spring on any firm, well drained soil in full sun. Sow thinly at a depth of 1cm (1/2") and a distance of 30cm (12") between rows. Prepare the planting area several weeks in advance by incorporating some well rotted garden compost to improve drainage and soil fertility. Avoid planting onions on freshly manured soil. On particularly wet ground, try growing onions in raised beds. When large enough to handle, thin onion seedlings to 10cm (4") apart for medium sized bulbs, or at a slightly wider spacing if larger bulbs are required.
Alternatively sow onion seed indoors in module trays at a depth of 1cm (1/2"), using free-draining, seed sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 10-15C (50-59F) until after germination which usually takes 10-14 days. Once germinated, grow onions on in cool conditions until all risk of frost has passed and they are large enough to plant outdoors at a distance of 10cm (4") apart. Cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.

Top Quality Onions 2016-11-18
I love my onions, and grow a number of varieties every year, but Santero and Red Baron are ever-presents. The flavour and pungency of Santero makes them excellent for cooking. I stored them in less than ideal conditions and they were still pristine in early March the following year. I grow them on my allotment, where allsorts of baddies linger, but, so far, I've had a good crop of tennis-ball sized onions, untouched by mildew or rust, every year. I have no hesitation in recommending Santero onion seeds.

Seed quantity 2011-05-02
Was not expecting so few but quantity is not listed on the website. Says 75 seeds on the packet. Should of gone with an other company who sell 200 seeds for under £2. Low score is down to seed quantity.
