Description

Thompson & Morgan is delighted to work alongside the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to offer special seed collections to home gardeners. The Kew Collection and The Kew Urban Garden Collection have been specially selected by The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

The perfect partner for spring bulbs, Myosotis 'Symphony Blue' produces frothy sprays of sky blue flowers from mid-spring to early summer. Stunning when planted en masse, this forget-me-not will create a carpet of colour in beds, borders and containers and is so easy to grow. A simple yet effective bed filler. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 20cm (8").

Culinary note: The flowers can be sprinkled over desserts to add a delicate scented flavour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Sowing

Sow Forget-me-not seeds from May to June on the surface of a good seed compost. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator at a temperature of 15-20°C (59-68°F) or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 14-30 days. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged and do not exclude light, as this helps germination. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow on in cooler conditions. When Myosotis plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting outdoors. Alternatively, over winter forget-me-not plants in a cold frame and plant them out the following spring. Plant forget-me-nots at a distance of 15cm (6") apart in well drained, reliably moist soil in full sun or semi shade.

Alternatively sow Myosotis seeds outdoors where they are to grow in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 6mm (0.25") in drills spaced 30cm (12") apart. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. When forget-me-not seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 15cm (6") apart.

More Info
Feed and water forget-me-nots regularly until fully established. Myosotis will often seed freely to create large clumps of seedlings that will flower in the following year.
