Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Video
Mahonia bealei is a hardy, upright, evergreen shrub with blue-green leaves divided into broad leaflets. Pale yellow, fragrant flowers are produced in short, upright 10cm (4") racemes from November to March, followed by ovoid blue-purple berries. Mahonia prefer a shady site but tolerates sun if soil does not dry out. Height: 1.5m (5'). Spread: 2.5m (8').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants become established. Mahonia plants require little pruning but may benefit from a trim in spring, once the winter berries have fallen, to remove any damaged or diseased stems and lightly shape the plant.
Grow Mahonia plants in borders or containers in any rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Although Mahonia plants are hardy they will appreciate a sheltered position away from cold, drying winds. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
