Description
One of our favourite garden shrubs. We know you'll love the fancy flower clusters that adorn the mountain laurel through early summer - make sure to plant Kalmia where you can get up close to truly appreciate the blooms in detail, they're like a work of art! Given a neutral to acid soil, Kalmia will become a nice, big, dense bushy shrub that will last for years and just get better and better with age. This designer shrub performs well in large containers too, so don't rule it out if you are gardening on alkaline or chalky soils. Makes a great addition to rhododendron and azalea displays. Height: 1m (39"). Spread: 1.5m (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Kalmia angustifolia in moist, well drained, neutral to acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Mountain Laurel plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info
Water Kalmia angustifolia plants regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Mountain Laurels will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot.
