Flowering Months

You rely on this recent introduction of St John’s Wort to provide plenty of interest in the garden. Golden yellow flowers with distinctive, spidery stamens are produced from May to June above the semi-evergreen foliage. The flowers are quickly replaced by scarlet red berries, which appear on the plant even while the late flowers are still in full bloom. Hypericum 'Magical Red Flame' is a superb garden variety with a compact, spreading habit. An useful small shrub for sunny mixed borders. Height and spread: 1m (39").

How to Grow

Plant St. John’s Wort in any garden soil and in a position that is sheltered from cold winds. Hypericum is a versatile plant coping well in poor, dry soils and even thriving in deep shade.

Feed and water plants regularly throughout the growing season while young Hypericums plants become established. Mature plants require little attention throughout the growing season. Prune St. John's Wort plants back to ground level each spring to allow fresh new growth to develop.
