Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Unusual large oak leaf shaped leaves give this plant its common name, the "oak-leafed hydrangea". Hydrangea quercifolia is a hardy, spreading, deciduous shrub which has long, conical panicles of white flowers in summer and autumn which slowly fade to a pale pink. At the same time the foliage of this hydrangea will also turn to dramatic autumnal shades, adding extra colour to your garden displays. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 250cm (98").

Flowering Months
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
Hydrangea quercifolia prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea quercifolia in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
