Description

Hydrangea paniculata are loved in UK gardens for their showy, conical blooms and handsome dark green foliage. This collection brings together three spectacular RHS AGM varieties. These reliable, deciduous shrubs make an elegant choice for mixed borders and grow equally well in large containers. The blooms open pale and gradually develop their rich colouring as the growing season progresses. Perfect for creating a long season of interest in cottage gardens, woodland edges, or on a lightly shaded patio.

  • Hydrangea paniculata Collection comprises 1 plant each of:
  • Hydrangea paniculata 'Silver Dollar' - Conical flower clusters in mid-summer which eventually turn to pink as the season progresses. Height: 300cm (118"). Spread: 300cm (118").
  • Hydrangea paniculata 'Phantom' - With colossal flower-heads this sturdy variety is truly a sight to behold! Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 250cm (98").
  • Hydrangea paniculata 'Pink Diamond' - A mesmerising variety, with different shades of white and pink flower heads appearing on the plant all at the same time. Height and spread: 2m (78").

How to Grow
Hydrangea paniculata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
