Description

The domed flower heads of Hydrangea macrophylla 'Magical Revolution Blue' undergo a stunning transformation throughout the summer. Opening a delicate pale blue with splashes of apple-green, the blooms gradually deepen to a rich purple-red by the end of summer. This striking deciduous shrub is supplied as a standard with a dense rounded head and a clear stem of 40-50cm. It makes an elegant container plant, bringing a finishing touch to entrances, positioned either side of a doorway.

As with many varieties, Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Magical Revolution Blue’ produces slightly different colour tones depending on the soil pH. On acid soils it will remain blue, while an acid soil will result in pink flowers over time. Height and spread: 90cm (36").

Supplied as a standard with a 40-50cm stem.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to grow hydrangeas

1 x 14cm potted standard hydrangea plant (40/50 stem) (KB4216)

How to Grow
Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
