Description
Recently introduced, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Dark Angel' is quite striking in its appearance. Large flower heads of deep mauve pink blooms with creamy-white centres are produced at the stem tips from July to September. Like all of its type, this Hydrangea will vary in colour intensity depending on the soil pH. The showy ‘Lacecap’ hortensia blooms contrast beautifully with the dark burgundy flushed foliage. This bushy, deciduous shrub has a compact, rounded habit that lends itself nicely to growing in large patio containers, but is equally spectacular in mixed borders. This choice Hydrangea is ideal for cottage gardens and woodland plantings, and makes a fine cut flower. Height and spread: 100cm (39").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune in spring, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
