Description
Spectacular dinner plate-like blooms (23cm/9in diameter) are produced in an impressive mixture of rich colours approximately 4½ months after sowing. Perfect for creating interest in borders, or grown in large pots on the patio or in a conservatory. Height: 50-80cm (20-32in).

Culinary note: The flowers can be infused to make a mildly citrus flavoured tea. The petals can be cut and added to fruit salads too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Sowing
Soak the seed in luke-warm water for 1-2 hours before sowing the seeds onto the surface of a good, free- draining, damp, seed compost. Cover with 1.5mm (1/16in) of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag at a temperature of 25-27C (75-80F) until after germination which usually takes 10-30 days. Do not exclude light as this helps germination.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost 30-45cm (12-18in) apart.
