A traditional cottage garden plant with plenty of old-fashioned charm! Heliotrope is commonly known as Cherry Pie, for its intensely fragrant, cherry-scented flowers which attract bees and butterflies to the garden. These recently introduced varieties have been bred for an abundance of flowers and a neat, bushy habit – perfect for bringing colour and fragrance to the patio. Although perennial in its native Peruvian habitat, Heliotrope is best grown as an annual in the UK. Plant it in patio pots, or at the front of sunny borders. Height and spread: 45cm (18").

Heliotrope 'Cherry Pie' Trio comprises:

  • Heliotrope ‘Nautilus Blue’ – Specially bred for a profusion of deep purple-blue flowers.
  • Heliotrope ‘Nautilus White’ - Sister to ‘Nautilus Blue’ with masses of fragrant white blooms.
  • Heliotrope ‘Marine’ – A particularly neat, compact variety with violet-blue flowers.

  • 6 heliotrope jumbo plug plants (KB8485)
3 heliotrope jumbo plug plants (KB8484)

    How to Grow
Pot up heliotrope plants using free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Pinch out growing tips while the plants are still small to encourage bushier growth. Once they are well grown, acclimatise heliotrope plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting outdoors on fertile, moist, well drained soil in a full sun.
    More Info
Feed and water regularly until heliotrope plants are fully established. Deadhead faded heliotrope flowers frequently throughout summer to encourage more blooms to be produced. Heliotrope is best grown as an annual, but container-grown plants can be overwintered in a warm frost free greenhouse. Caution: Contact with foliage may irritate the skin and eyes. Heliotrope is harmful if eaten.
