Description
Vegetable plants are perfect if you don't have a greenhouse or cold frame in which to grow vegetables from seed, and you can further revolutionise the way you grow your summer crops with our Grafted Vegetables! This all-natural process of joining a fruiting variety to a more vigorous rootstock has brought massive benefits to commercial crop production. Now you can bring the goodness of grafted vegetables to your own pots and plots!

We've selected rootstocks from vigorous performers and matched them with the best fruiting varieties to bring you the best possible results from a single plant. Spend a little extra on our grafted plants and reap the rewards right through the season!

This collection includes three of our best grafted vegetables:
Tomato 'Gourmandia F1': A superb beefsteak variety producing tasty, heart-shaped tomatoes with a high yield on vigorous plants.
Tomato 'Picolino F1': A cordon variety producing a prolific crop of golf ball sized delicious tomatoes perfect for salads and sauces.
Cucumber 'Mini Stars F1': Smooth and crisp 'snack-sized' cucumbers are produced on this high mildew resistant variety.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 9cm potted tomato 'Piccolino' plant (KA9303)
1 x 9cm potted tomato 'Gourmandia' plant (KA9309)
3 x 9cm potted grafted plants (KB1138)
6 x 9cm potted grafted plants (KB1139)
1 x 9cm potted cucumber 'Mini Stars' plant (KA1630)

How to Grow

Pot up, and grow tomato plants on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days.

Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Alternatively grow tomatoes in patio bags and containers in good quality compost such as John Innes No. 2. Drive a (5’) cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

More Info
Water tomato plants frequently, to keep the compost evenly moist. Feed tomatoes regularly with a high potash plant food once the first truss of fruit has formed.

Tie the main stems to their supports and remove any sideshoots that develop between the main stem and the leaf stems. Once the plant has produced 6 or 7 trusses, pinch out the top of the main stem. This process of “sideshooting” and “stopping” will increase the availability of light and air movement around the developing fruit, and focus the plants energy on producing a good crop of high quality tomatoes. Tomatoes can be harvested as they ripen from July to September.
