Flowering Months
Water gentian plants regularly until they’re fully established. Provide additional water during particularly hot, dry periods. Cut back faded gentian flowers to just above the rosette of foliage to keep plants tidy.
Pot up gentian plug plants and grow on in frost-free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant gentians in full sun or part shade, on light, fertile, reliably moist soil in rock gardens, alpine troughs, raised beds and containers. On heavier soils, incorporate plenty of grit to improve drainage, prior to planting.
