An improved strain of this popular American wildflower! These superb coneflowers form low growing clumps of leaves from which the sturdy flower stems launch upwards with their large, rose-pink daisies. Unlike many varieties, the petals of Echinacea purpurea 'Primadonna' radiate outwards instead of downwards from a deep orange-brown central cone. With a compact, branching habit, this fabulous variety makes a lovely addition to borders and wildlife gardens where it will attract butterflies and other pollinating insects. Height: 85cm (33"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until coneflower plants are fully established. Deadhead faded Echinacea flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, cut back faded flower stems and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Divide overcrowded plants in autumn or spring.
Pot up echinacea plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to transplant outdoors. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting out in borders. Grow echinacea plants in a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Coneflowers prefer a deep, fertile soil and will benefit from the addition of some well rotted manure or garden compost to soil, prior to planting.

Reviews

worth the wait 2016-08-29

These tiny plugs took quite a bit of nurturing, and protection from slugs once in the border, but in their second year they have grown really well, with lots of flowers from late July onwards.

Very small plugs 2015-03-13

Gave them this rating as came in excellent condition but they are a lot smaller plugs than I thought they would be. Have repotted in larger pots 2" !!

Extremely small plugs 2015-02-07

They look fine but extremely small plug. I have planted them straight in the garden since it is so warm. Hard to envision such small plugs will eventually become beautiful daisies; thus will wait and hope.

T&M replied on 2015-07-03: Thank you for your review. Please do let us know if you have any problems at all with your order.
