vCreate a relaxed, hazy look in your borders with this airy ornamental carrot, Daucus carota 'Dara’. Blooming in a mixture of shades ranging from burgundy to pink and white, the delicate umbels of these elegant plants create a beautiful frothy effect in a mixed planting scheme as well as attracting bees and other pollinators. Upright stems sway in the breeze which creates a gentle movement, even the soft ferny foliage is a great feature. Try combining them with mixed flowering perennials or wildflowers for a classic, natural-looking style. Grow plenty so you can spare a few to snip and display in a vase, their graceful charm makes for a gorgeous country-style bouquet. Height: 80cm (31"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Sowing

Direct sow Ornamental Carrot seed outdoors where they are to grow from August to September, or in Spring from February to April. Choose a weed free position in full sun on reliably moist, well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow carrot seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½in). Germination will take 10 to 20 days. When large enough to handle, thin out the seedlings to 10cm (4in) apart.

More Info
