New breeding enhances the blue pigment in dahlias a little more each year, and Dahlia 'Blue Wish' shows the latest colour improvements. The white petals have delicate purple tips as they open but quickly mature to a solid shade of lilac, creating a pretty two-tone effect. The large blooms of this eye-catching dahlia are carried on tall stems which make a lovely feature toward the back of borders, or in a summery bouquet of freshly cut flowers. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Flowering Months
Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. As dahlias develop, the taller varieties will require staking with garden canes to support their stems. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. With the first autumn frosts, remove tubers from their growing positions and trim away the old stems to 5cm above the tuber. Clean any remaining soil from the tubers and store them over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position. The tubers can be planted the following spring for another fabulous display.
Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6"), and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.
