Description
An extremely attractive Hawthorn bearing clusters of small, creamy-white flowers in late spring. The large, orange-red fruits that follow make an eye-catching feature, attracting birds to its spreading branches. The deeply lobed foliage is glossy green with downy, silvery grey undersides, creating a dense canopy. Crataegus orientalis is a small, deciduous tree with attractive flaky bark once mature. It copes in a wide range of conditions, even tolerating coastal locations and exposed positions. Height and spread: 6m (19’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Crataegus plants in sun or shade, in any moderately fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Hawthorn at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Crataegus requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in winter. If grown as a hedge, Hawthorn can be trimmed in Summer or Autumn, and tolerates hard pruning when necessary.
