Description

A spectacular, colour-themed Clematis Trio for a full summer of colour! Grow these beauties in patio pots or scrambling through borders – let them intertwine for a sensational three-toned effect! The large blooms emerge single in early summer but become increasingly more double as the season progresses. These showy deciduous climbers are ideal for covering walls and fences, yet compact enough to thrive in large patio containers.

    Clematis Trio comprises:
  • 1 x 9cm potted Clematis florida ‘Taiga’ - Layer upon layer of violet petals, are delicately tipped with white to create a spectacular contrast. Height: 200cm (79"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Pruning group 3.
  • 1 x 9cm potted Clematis ‘Kokonoe’ – Sister to our best-selling Clematis ‘Taiga’! Opulent, double blooms with rich, violet purple petals produce a luxurious display. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Pruning group 3.
  • 1 x 7cm potted Clematis ‘Dancing King’ - Lilac purple flowers with delicately rippling edges to each petal. Selected for its compact habit. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Pruning group: 2.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up clematis plants and grow them on until large enough to plant in their final positions. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
More Info

Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of each plant in order to shade the roots and conserve soil moisture. The clematis in this collection should be pruned according to their pruning groups as follows:

  • Group 2 - Prune in spring before the plants start into active growth. Remove any damaged or dead stems and reduce the remaining growth back to a set of strong healthy buds. New flowering stems will be produced from this framework of previous growth.
  • Group 3 – Prune in spring before plants start into active growth. Cut back to a pair of strong buds about 20cm (8") above ground level, removing all of the previous year's growth.
