Description

Please note that due to high demand we have sadly sold out of Clematis Westerplatte and Clematis Early Sensation in our Clematis Duo collection. However, this amazing collection is still available to order and we will be substituting these varieties with Clematis 'Winter Beauty' and montana 'Rubens'. Please accept our apologies for any disappointment this may cause.

A spectacular, colour-themed Clematis duo for a full summer of colour! Grow these stunning varieties in patio pots or scrambling through borders – let them intertwine for a sensational colored toned effect!. These showy deciduous climbers are ideal for covering walls and fences, yet compact enough to thrive in large patio containers.
You will receive the following varieties:

Clematis Westerplatte
There are few true red varieties of Clematis and this is one of the best. Flowers open to reveal an exquisite velvety, maroon-red colour, before gently aging to dusky crimson. With a neat compact habit, Clematis 'Westerplatte' makes a superb choice for growing in patio containers. Height: 2m (6'). Spread: 1m (3'). Pruning Group: 2.

Clematis Early SensationAs the name suggests, Clematis 'Early Sensation' is an early flowering variety. The large, fragrant white blooms with yellow-green stamens are followed by attractive fluffy seed heads. The non-clinging stems are cloaked in evergreen foliage which is bronze when young before maturing to dark green. Grow this compact clematis among mature shrubs or trained onto an obelisk in a large patio container for an elegant start to the growing season. Height: 2m (6'). Spread: 1m (3'). Pruning group: 1.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up clematis plants and grow them on until large enough to plant in their final positions. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
More Info
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. This variety of clematis flowers in summer on new stems which develop from the previous year’s growth. Pruning should be undertaken in spring before active growth begins. When pruning group 2 Clematis, remove any damaged or dead stems entirely before cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
