Description
Also known as the Dwarf Flowering Almond, Cherry 'Sinensis' makes a wonderfully compact, low-maintenance shrub for small gardens. In mid to late spring, masses of voluptuous double pink blossoms smother the bare stems before the leaves appear. This pretty, eye-catching shrub looks stunning planted as a free-standing specimen or as part of a mixed border where it adds real impact to the spring garden. Height and spread: 1.5m (5').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

Pot up Prunus glandulosa 'Sinensis' plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown, acclimatise Prunus plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before transplanting them outdoors in well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole.

More Info

Feed and water cherry trees regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, Prunus glandulosa plants require only occasional attention. Pruning of Dwarf Flowering Almonds is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in mid-summer. In spring, while the ground is moist, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the base of the plant, taking care not to mound it up against the stem. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
