Flowering Months
Feed and water perennial plants until they are fully established. The stems of taller varieties may require staking, especially on exposed, windy sites. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage further blooms to be produced. Cut back the old foliage in autumn. Lavender plants should be pruned to within 2cm (1") of the previous year's growth immediately after flowering to maintain a compact, well shaped plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, toxic if eaten.
Pot up perennial plants using free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors. Choose a sunny position on moist, well drained soil.
