Sowing

Sow in pots or trays of good seed compost. Place in a propagator or warm place, providing a temperature of 20-30C (68-86F). Cover with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Sow February to March. After sowing, place in a dark position until seedlings emerge. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged, germination will usually take 14-21 days.

When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Grow in warm conditions for 2-3 weeks before gradually acclimatising to outdoor conditions for before planting out after all risk of frost.

More Info

Provide a ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun, spacing plants by 30cm (12in). Can also be grown as pot plants, provide a container at least 23cm (9in) in size.

Caution: harmful if eaten.
