Description Sowing More Info Delivery

As its name suggests, Cabbage 'Derby Day' can be harvested as early as June. This ballhead summer cabbage has good resistance against bolting and stands well over a long period making it ideal for successional harvests. Delicious boiled, steamed or shredded raw into salads. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Companion planting: Try growing cabbages with Nasturtiums to draw cabbage white butterflies away from your crop, and mint to help deter flea beetles.

Sowing Months Harvest Months

Later sowing from end of May will produce quality heads to October.

Sow seeds mid February in pots or trays under glass, then transplant outdoors for earliest heads in June. Alternatively sow seeds outdoors from mid March to end of May, thinly in a prepared seedbed, 13mm deep.

Transplant when large enough to handle, about 5 weeks from sowing, in to well prepared soil in a sunny spot, allowing 38cm each way between plants. Plant firmly and water in. Compact plants allow closer spacings and less wasted outer leaves.

Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above. Plants, bulbs, corms, tubers, shrubs, trees, potatoes, etc. are delivered at the appropriate time for planting or potting on. Delivery times will be stated on the product page above, or in your order acknowledgement page and email.

Orders for packets of seed incur a delivery charge of £1.95.

Orders which include any other products will incur a delivery charge of £4.95.

Where an order includes both packets of seeds and other products, a maximum delivery charge of £6.90 will apply - regardless of the number of items ordered.

Large items may incur a higher delivery charge - this will be displayed in your shopping basket.

Please see our Delivery page for further details and details of any surcharges that may apply to certain destinations.
