Sowing Months Flowering Months

For best results, provide a rich, light, well-drained soil in full sun or part shade.

Sow mid January to mid March. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a temperature of around 24-27ºC (75-80ºF). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 15-60 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays.CAUTION: Dust-like seeds. To open, hold over a sheet of white paper, cut along three sides of inner pack and carefully open out flat. Tap the packet gently to dislodge seed.

Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 15-20cm (6-8in) apart, or plant into containers.

These are a must!! 2011-11-09

This is the second year of growing this variety and boy are they worth the effort. The size and intensity of colour is worth all the hassle and heart ache. I have a blood red one I am not sure where it came from, but the range of rich cream with pink edging, deep yellow with a peach flush even pure white with a pink picotee edging. Remembering to pinch out the single side flowers the size of the blooms are stunning. It really is a great sense of achievement to end with these blooms. Do try them, they really are a must in the borders and on the patio. I have been converted!
