Aucuba japonica 'Variegata' is an excellent evergreen shrub with large leathery green leaves with a golden-yellow speckle to them. This variegation means it is a lovely addition to a shaded spot as the leaves will have a light enhancing effect. It has a dense growth habit and tolerates the shade well. In the spring, small, purple flowers appear and if it is near a male clone then they could be followed by some glossy red berries – not for eating though! Height and spread 250cm (98”).

Aucuba plants are extremely resilient, thriving in any soil except those that become waterlogged. Spotted Laurel will cope in a sunny position but prefers dappled or full shade.
More Info Aucuba plants require little maintenance except for a light trim in early spring to maintain a healthy well shaped plant or hedge. However they will respond well to heavy pruning in spring if renovation is required.
