Description
Fully double, jet-black blooms make Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata 'Black Barlow' particularly alluring. The spurless blooms are held aloft on wiry stems above airy clumps of foliage. Like all columbines, this hardy perennial is easy to grow, seeding freely to form attractive swathes throughout borders. How to Grow
Pot up aquilegia plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. Grow aquilegias in sun or part shade in any fertile, moist, well drained soil.
More Info
Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary.Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
