Description

Japanese Maples are prized for their colourful, finely cut foliage and elegant branching habit. This superb trio is the perfect way to bring colour and structure to your garden. Indispensable for bringing character to Japanese planting schemes and rockeries, but also make a fine container tree and add a lovely splash of colour to mixed borders. The delicate foliage of these Acers are susceptible to sun scorch and wind burn, so they are best planted in a sheltered, lightly shaded position.

Acer Collection comprises:

  • Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum'- An ideal small tree, producing gorgeous, purple-red foliage that colours to brilliant, fiery crimson in autumn. Height and spread: Up to 4m (13').
    • Acer palmatum 'Sango kaku'- Coral-red young branches bear 5-lobed leaves which open pinkish-yellow, turning green in summer and yellow in autumn, grown as a large deciduous shrub or small tree Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 4m (13').
    • Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' - Delicate foliage in a rich emerald green, tinged slightly with red make Acer ‘Emerald Lace’ an excellent specimen plant in any bed, border or even planted in a large pot on a patio. Height and Spread: Up to 4m (158")

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

3 x 10.5cm potted acer plants (1 of each variety) (KC0161)

How to Grow
Grow Acer palmatum trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It is quite important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves. Alternatively grow the Japanese Maple in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter
