Description
A superb ornamental tree with plenty of seasonal interest. Acer capillipes is commonly known as a Snake Bark Maple for its exquisite striated bark, which is green, streaked with silver when young. With maturity the bark ages to grey with the same silvery markings. In spring the new 3-lobed foliage emerges red, becoming green throughout summer, before autumn turns the leaves to stunning shades of red, orange and gold. Tiny green-white spring flowers are replaced by pink-yellow fruits in summer. Acer capillipes is slow growing species with an attractive spreading habit that makes a superb deciduous specimen tree. Height: 8m (26’). Spread: 4m (13’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
