How to Grow
Abutilon megapotamicum 'Big Bell' has been trained as a showy standard with a bushy head of foliage and an upright, bare stem. Throughout summer, bicolour flowers nod like Chinese lanterns among a crown of dark, semi-evergreen foliage. This half-hardy shrub makes a superb conservatory plant. Move it to the patio in summer to create an eye-catching focal point! With winter protection, it will survive year after year, rewarding you with a long lasting display of exotic booms. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Grow abutilon plants in any fertile, well drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. A warm south or west facing wall that is protected from cold winds and hard frosts is ideal. In areas where temperatures regularly drop below -5C (23F), abutilon plants are best grown in large patio containers and moved to a frost free position over winter. When growing abutilon in patio containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No. 2.
More Info Feed and water regularly throughout the spring and summer. Abutilon plants do not tolerate overly dry soil and may drop their foliage under such conditions. Prune abutilon lightly in spring, removing any damaged or dead stems.
