Peas and beans are easy to grow and great for children too. Sowing in succession (every few weeks) means you'll have a continuous crop throughout the summer. Try growing sweet peas next to your runner beans to improve pollination.
Dwarf Bean 'Mascaret'
Phaseolus vulgaris, French Bean, Green Bean, Bush BeanOutstanding in our trials, these delicious, mid-green, stringless French beans are produced in abundance throughout the summer on vigorous, bushy plants. The pods show an unusual purple colouration which disappears during cooking, but is thought to be what gives Dwarf Bean 'Mascaret' its superb flavour. Plants remain healthy over a long harvesting period and show good all-round disease resistance. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 30cm (12").
Companion planting: Try growing French beans with Nasturtiums to draw aphids away from your crop.

Pea 'Sugar Snow Green' (Mangetout)
Pisum sativum, Snow PeaThis compact mangetout is a prolific cropper if harvested regularly while the pods are small and tender. The flat pods of Pea 'Sugar Snow Green' are delicious added to stir fries or steamed. This lovely dwarf variety is perfect for growing in smaller plots and containers on the patio.
