Spinach 'Viking' is very easy to grow, rewarding you with a tasty abundance of broad, dark green leaves that can be eaten fresh or are ideal for freezing. Spinach is usually eaten cooked but it can also be eaten raw as a baby leaf in salads. Height and spread: 30cm (12").
Sow outdoors. Before sowing, prepare the ground by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Make shallow channels (drills) in the soil 30cm (12") apart. Sow thinly, 1cm (1/2") deep in the drills. Cover lightly with soil.
Thin out the plants when the seedlings are large enough to handle, to about 5cm (2") apart.
Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Keep the plants cool and moist to prevent them running to seed.
