Second early potatoes should be planted up from March to late May and the small, new potatoes will be ready to harvest in approximately 13 weeks. They will benefit from 'chitting'before planting and can be grown either in the ground or in potato patio planters.
Potato 'Shetland Black'Solanum tuberosum Second early. Shallow eyed tubers with dark blue to almost black skin, and pale yellow floury flesh with a distinctive purple vascular ring. Potato Shetland Black is a general purpose, Victorian second early variety for baking, roasting or steaming. Height and spread: 60cm (24"). Potato 'Yukon Gold'Solanum tuberosum Second early. Potato ‘Yukon Gold’ could win you over on appearance alone. This attractive variety produces oval tubers with gorgeous golden skins with buttery yellow flesh of a delicious, rich flavour. This second early variety is superb baked, roasted or fried.
