Possibly the smallest and quickest flowering sunflower available. The dwarf multi-flowering plants of Sunflower Choco Sun produce their first blooms in eleven to twelve weeks from sowing. Ideal for adding interest to containers and fun for children to grow.
Sow seeds March to May. Sow seeds thinly, 12mm (½in) deep in drills 45cm (18in) apart in well cultivated soil raked to a fine tilth or direct into small containers. Germination takes around 21 days. When large enough to handle, thin to 45cm (18in) apart.
For earlier flowering: Sow indoors, individually in 7.5cm (3in) pots at 20-25C (68-77F). When well grown, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after all risk of frost into borders or containers.
Prefers a well drained soil in full sun.
The buds are delicious cooked in butter sauce and seeds make a tasty snack.
