Widely used as an attractive baby leaf salad, adding an almost crimson colour to salads. Beet Bull's Blood also makes a decorative addition to the flower garden.
Sow seeds April to June. Sow seeds thinly, 13mm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in moist, well-drained, fertile soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods.
Thin out seedlings when large enough to handle, to 10cm (4in) apart.
Harvest leaves as and when required, picking a few only from each plant.
