Erect flowering spikes. Acanthus hungaricus has more compact ornamental foliage making it an ideal cut flower.
Sow seeds in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 65-70F (18-20C). Sowing Depth: ¼ Inch (6 mm). Sowing Time: February to July. Use a soilless compost and seal in a polythene bag after sowing to keep the moisture constant.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Move from cold frame to a nursery bed and grow on for 1-2 years and then plant out in final positions. Space the plants 60cm (24in) apart.
Plant in full sun or part shade. Prefers a rich, light, well drained soil.
