The wild form of the vegetable Chicory makes a beautiful addition to a cottage garden border. Electric blue flowers are produced on the many, breezy stems throughout summer. Be quick to enjoy their beauty, as the flowers always close by midday!
Sowing Time: March to May. Sow thinly, 3mm (1/8in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in well-cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods.
Can also be sown direct into the soil during August to September for early summer flowering next year.
When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart. For best results, provide a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
