Mini Vegetable. Turnip Primera F1 produces succulent, pure white 'ping pong' ball sized roots full of flavour especially grated raw in salads or as a steamed vegetable. Use tender tops of Turnip Primera F1 in salads, stir fries or steamed.
Sow seeds March to August at 4 week intervals. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in a rich, humus-rich, well-drained soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Turnips should be grown quickly and kept well watered.
Thin out seedlings when large enough to handle, to 2.5cm (1in) apart. Can also be sown under cloches in early spring and in late summer to extend the cropping season.
Harvest at 'golf-ball' size when sweet and succulent, about 5 weeks from sowing.
You can eat both turnip tops and roots, which are rich in fibre and Vitamin C.
