Kale Fizz is a fast growing kale with an upright plant habit which is a product of British breeding in brassica leaves with new leaf shapes and textures. These highly nutritious salad leaves, which are deeply and finely lobed, will complement any mixed leaf salad.
However, if Kale Fizz is grown outdoors or at wider spacings in a large container, the plants will be more productive and the larger leaves can be used as a cooked vegetable. Larger plants are very winter hardy.
Sow seeds from April to September for salad leaves or from March to May for full size Kale.
For Salad Leaves: Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Thin seedlings when large enough to handle to 30cm (12in) apart.
For mature Kale: Sow seeds into individual pots or a seed tray of a proprietary compost and cover with 6mm (¼in) of compost or vermiculite, at a minimum of 15C (60F), until germination which takes around 7 days. Alternatively, can be sown thinly in a prepared seedbed 13mm (½in) deep, allowing 30cm (12in) between rows.
