High yields of stringless, flat and juicy pods - up to 25mm (1in) wide and 25cm (10in) long - with plenty of flavour. The vigorous plant habit and slow seed development within the pods of Runner Bean Pantheon result in a prolonged picking season. White flowers.
Sow seeds mid April in pots indoors to plant outdoors from late May, or sow seeds from May to July outdoors.
Indoors: Sow seeds individually in 7.5cm (3in) pots at 18-21C (65-70F) from mid April for transplanting outdoors after frost risk has passed.
Outdoors : Sow seeds direct into warm soil from late May to late July. Sow 2 or 3 seeds 5cm (2in) deep, allowing 20cm (8in) between each group of seeds, and 60cm (24in) between rows. No need to thin out. Note: Germination can be erratic in cold, wet soils.
Use cloches to aid establishment of earliest sowings. Hoe regularly and keep well watered and mulched during dry periods.
Harvest regularly whilst young for highest yields and to extend the season. Plants will require some form of support such as canes or netting to climb up.
