A major improvement on the old spaghetti squash, this variety offers appealing, deep orange flesh with a sweeter flavour. Extract the 'spaghetti' flesh from each boiled fruit to experience a very unusual vegetable. Generous yields of pale orange-skinned fruits of up to 1kg (2.2lbs).
Sow April to May. Sow seed, 1cm (½ inch) deep in 7.5cm (3 inch) pots of free draining compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which takes 7 to 10 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
Can also be sown direct outdoors once the soil has warmed. Sow 2 seeds every 75cm (30 inches) and thin out to the best seedling.
Cut in half, boil for around 5 minutes and the inside comes away just like spaghetti. Excellent used in stir fries and salads. High in Beta-Carotene.
