RHS Vegetable Collection : Tomato : Vilma

Tomato Vilma is a compact and bushy variety specifically bred for growing in containers. Each 50-60cm (20-24in) tall plant produces a heavy crop of sweet and juicy, cherry-sized tomatoes each weighing 20g (0.7oz) over a long picking period. Seeds are in the RHS Vegetable Collection.

Tomato : Balconi Red

Bush/Basket (Determinate). An exceptionally sweet cherry variety with the exciting attribute of being able to trail when grown as a basket plant, one plant filling a 30cm (12in) basket with ease. Tomato Balconi Red is extremely decorative as well as productive.

For indoor and outdoor cropping sow seed in spring, 5-7 weeks before planting out date. Requires no side shooting.

Tomato : Balconi Yellow

Bush/Basket (Determinate). An exceptionally sweet cherry variety with the exciting attribute of being able to trail when grown as a basket plant, one plant filling a 30cm (12in) basket with ease. Tomato Balconi Yellow is extremely decorative as well as productive.

Tomato : Gartenperle

Bush (Determinate). The Tumbling Tomato! Ideal for growing in baskets, containers and windowboxes. Tomato Gartenperle produces a heavy crop of delicious 'rosy red' cherry sized fruits that will tumble over the sides from early in the season and continue throughout the summer. Gartenperle is easy to grow, naturally trailing, needs no stopping or sideshooting.

Tomato : Green Sausage (Heritage)

Bush (Determinate). Elongated, green, sausage-like fruits with conspicuous yellow stripes and delicious green flesh. Bushy plants bearing 4in. long tomatoes of 1½in. diameter, with an average of 6-7 fruits per truss. Tomato Green Sausage is best grown under glass for early crops; grows outdoors in warm summers.

Tomato : Maskotka

Bush/Basket
A bushy, dwarf variety, especially bred for growing in baskets and containers, where stems and fruits fall gently over the sides. Tomato Maskotka produces a heavy crop of sweet, red 25-35g (1-1¼oz) cherry fuits with a good resistance to cracking.

Tomato : Red Alert

Bush (Determinate). A superb flavoured, outdoor bush tomato which is very early maturing, ripening before the blight has a chance and heavy yielding. The fruit of Tomato Red Alert are smaller than average but have a vastly superior flavour and you can expect weights of 4-5lb (1.8-2.25kg) per bush. Easy to grow with no supporting or side shooting needed, in fact the perfect choice for an outdoor tomato.

Tomato : Sub Artic Plenty (Heritage)

Bush (Determinate). T&M first sold this variety in 1976. However it was first developed in the 1940's to provide the US Air Force stationed in Greenland with fresh tomatoes, grown in conditions very different to this variety's native South America. Tomato Sub Artic Plenty has a unique ability to set fruit under cool conditions, producing small red fruit ripening very early with plenty of flavour. Much hardier than normal, makes this particularly advantageous when spring weather after planting out can turn cold. Do not plant out, however, until all danger of frost has passed. Sub Artic Plenty needs no staking or side shooting. A heavy cropper and quite capable of 9lb per plant, and you will always be the first in your area with ripe outdoor tomatoes! (Lycopersicon esculentum)

Heritage tomatoes: Thompson and Morgan over the past 100 years have found several tomatoes from their own trials and through travelling around the world seeing and tasting varieties both old and new. We have put together a range of good old fashioned tomatoes from those forgotten years that we consider have stood the test of time. All are unusual in colour and shape having a wonderful flavour of how tomatoes used to be, making a welcome addition to any kitchen garden.

Tomato : Totem F1

Bush (Determinate). A dwarf stocky bush variety, both early and heavy yielding, with large trusses of crimson tomatoes produced low down on the stem. This makes Tomato Totem one of the best varieties for growing in pots, tubs, windowboxes, growbags and in the garden where it is particularly useful if space is limited.

Tomato : Tumbling Tom Red

(Bush/Basket). A truly trailing tomato. Perfect for tubs and patio containers, cascading out of a hanging basket. Tomato Tumbling Tom Red produces cherry sized, sweet and juicy fruits in abundance throughout the summer. No sideshooting or training required.
