Once you have received your potato tubers you need to leave them to chit (i.e. they start to sprout). Potatoes are categorised into three main types depending on the timing of their maturity, ‘first earlies’, ‘second earliers’ and ‘maincrops’. First earlies crop from May, second earlies crop through the summer and maincrops well into the autumn.
