Just imagine a floral firework display in your borders or on the patio. When the garden’s in dire need of cheering up at the end of the summer, hardy orchid lilies (tricyrtis) explode with shimmering colour for a late season spectacular. Their arching stems are laden with exotic, star-shaped flowers - as many as 100 per plant - and each one is a unique work of art worthy of close inspection. As beautiful as orchids but far easier to grow.
Great flowers are difficult to grow in deep shade, but not so with tricyrtis. These hardy perennials naturally inhabit the dense forests of the Far East and are invaluable for adding sparkle to those dull corners of your garden. Plant against a backdrop of foliage such as hostas or ferns, and they'll gleam like jewels. Although they love shade they'll grow quite happily in a sunny border or even in a pot on the patio where you can admire them up close. If you can bring yourself to cut them, they'll look great in a vase!
Flower size 1-1½ inches. Height: 24-30 inches.
Growing advice: Prefer dappled shade to full sun, in a soil that doesn't dry out completely. Plants form clumps over time.
Supplied as cell-raised young plants that multiply rapidly. Collection of three varieties.
