Trial Ground Open Weekend

Event now finished for 2011

Thompson & Morgan's 18th annual Trial Ground Open Weekend

Thompson & Morgan invites you to its 18th annual Trial Ground Open Weekend,  which is taking place on Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st July 2011 between 10.00am and 4.00pm on both days.

What is an open weekend?

Every year, we carry out extensive plant trials to discover potential new introductions to the T&M range and ensure the varieties we already stock are still meeting our performance standards. Open weekend gives visitors a unique opportunity to see our trial grounds up close and to get a sneak preview of newly developed experimental varieties some of which have won awards for their innovative qualities. For example, Buddleja Buzz™ which won Best New Plant at the Grower of the Year Awards in 2010.

As well as seeing all these new varieties, you will also have the opportunity of viewing T&M's beautiful show gardens, see many of the plants from the next year's range planted up and in full bloom, meet our experts, see demonstrations, get expert advice and find out more about the company.

In 2010 as well as our trial grounds, show gardens, advice and demonstrations, we also had displays from The Begonia Society, The Geranium Society and The Fuchsia Society and the web team. We featured the ever popular plant sale and topical quiz - not to mention the question and answer time with our experts. The refreshment marquee with its delicious array of cakes and sandwiches provided somewhere for visitors to tear themselves away from the beautiful flower borders and containers. There was also a free packet of seeds for every visitor and the chance to pick up a few bargains, plants and gardening equipment!
