Keep your lily bulbs frost-free until you’re ready to plant them. They can be stored in a cool place until March and then planted straight into the garden, or you can pot them into containers on receipt. It’s not unusual to find mould on bulbs; this is perfectly normal and occurs when moist bulbs are introduced to the air prior to packing. It doesn’t affect their performance. Pot up using free-draining compost.
Allow 3 bulbs per 30cm (12in) container. Plant so that the tip of the bulb is at least 15cm (6in) below the compost level.Water well to settle the compost. Place in a cool spot in full light and water gently until the bulbs push through the compost, then increase watering as growth appears. Protect containers from any hard frosts. As the weather improves, move the container to a sunny position and keep well watered. Flowers summer. Caution: poisonous to cats; pollen will stain - we recommend removing the pollen before it turns to powder.
