A dwarf variety with branching stems and a neat, bushy habit. Golden Berry ‘Pineapple’ produces heavy crops of tangy pineapple flavoured fruits in late summer and autumn. The bright orange berries are enclosed by a papery husk creating an attractive Chinese lantern appearance. Physalis peruviana is half hardy and therefore tends to be grown as an annual in the UK. Height and spread: 60cm (24").
Water Physalis plants frequently, to keep the compost evenly moist and feed regularly with a high potash plant food. Golden Berry plants may require staking. Harvest Chinese Lantern fruits in autumn when the husks turn brittle and pale brown in colour, and the fruits within them are a bright golden orange. Store Golden Berries in their husks in a warm place indoors. Caution: Except for the berry itself, all parts of Golden Berry plants are harmful if eaten.

I planted these seeds in pots & transplanted them outside forgotten about them when weeds took over. When I remove the weeds there were fruits on the plant I was excited. Fruits in one year.

These seeds germinate well, and the plants grow just as described - healthy and fruitful dwarf plants. The fruits are encased in their papery cases, and drop off when ripe, so there's no problem with harvesting! And they make a very impressive garnish or addition to fruit salad and you can include them in cooked dishes or dip them in chocolate for a treat :)
