Rhubarb Plants


Grow your own rhubarb and within 2 years you'll be harvesting the stems by the armful! Early varieties can be forced (grown in darkness under a large pot or rhubarb forcer) or left to grow 'naturally'. Try to resist the urge to pick all the stems in the first year, so that the plants can become properly established.

This early variety is ideal for forcing to produce long, slender, pink-tinged stalks. For a deeper, red-coloured stem, leave the stems of Rhubarb ‘Champagne’ unforced – they will still be just as sweet and delicious! This old variety is particularly reliable and easy to grow. Height: 60cm (24”). Spread: 120cm (48”).

These budded pieces, taken from established crowns will quickly mature, resulting in crowns big enough to harvest from 2 years after planting.

Rhubarb 'Victoria' (Autumn Planting)

The greenish-pink stems of Rhubarb ‘Victoria’ have tender flesh with an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. Once established, this popular, traditional variety will produce a heavy crop, year after year. Height: 60cm (24”). Spread: 120cm (48”).

Rhubarb 'Timperley Early' (Autumn Planting)

Rheum x hybridum

Regarded as the earliest maturing variety, Rhubarb ‘Timperley Early’ is ideal for forcing to provide tender pink sticks as early as February, but it can also be grown unforced in the normal way. This RHS AGM variety produces a moderate yield of pink stems streaked with apple green.
